Assessment limit: Information that would enhance or clarify the reader's understanding of the main idea of the text or a portion of the text

Read "Making a Mobile" and answer the following question.

Explain what information could be added to "Making a Mobile" to help the reader better understand the art of making mobiles. Use information from "Making a Mobile" in your explanation. Write your answer in your answer book.

Annotation, Using the Rubric: This response demonstrates an understanding of the complexities of the text. The student identifies several pieces of information that could be added that would be helpful to a reader: "…add some information to the materials list…add…a picture to each step." The student effectively uses text-relevant information to clarify why these pieces of information would be helpful; "…a ruler…for step 1 to measure those eight inches,…a scissors…to cut one of the straws…[a picture] so the reader would have a better understanding of the text."

The student identifies several pieces of information but does not explain why these pieces of information are needed. The student wants to add information about the straw and the hole but does not explain how it would help a reader. The student gives only a partial explanation for the addition of illustrations to the directions which would "show how it is done."
