The Algebra/Data Analysis assessment has a duel purpose. When the assessment is used for high school accountability to determine annual yearly progress (AYP) for the No Child Left Behind Act, it is sometimes referred to as MSA. When the Algebra/Data Analysis assessment is referred to as HSA, then the assessment is a high school graduation requirement for students. Students take this one assessment at the end of their Algebra/Data Analysis course and the results are used to satisfy both requirements.
