[Getting Started]

This program employs the "Taylor float" which suspends the oysters in a wire mesh basket near the surface. This system provides specific advantages for the oysters:
  • There is a good a good supply of food and oxygen near the surface
  • A reduced threat from predators
  • There is a reduced amount of sedimentation
  • Easy maintenance of oyster garden populations

As a participant in the program, you will start with young oysters, called seed or spat, that have been spawned and reared in a hatchery.
