CHARACTERISTICS OF THE LESSON PLAN
 

Good science lessons:

  1. Are based on the Indicators from the Maryland Learning Outcomes (K-8) or
    Skills & Processes Goals and Concept Goals (9-12)
    (The indicators for the skills and processes are combined with the indicators from the concept goal.)
  2. Follow the 5E lesson model structure
  3. Include Writing to Inform and Writing to Persuade Prompts
  4. Include Reading to be Informed and Reading to Perform a Task Stance Questions (when a reading is included)
  5. Integrate with Mathematics, Social Studies, Health, Physical Education, the Fine Arts, etc. (when possible)
  6. Include Brief and Extended Constructed Response Questions within Lesson
  7. Include Selected Responses within Lesson when appropriate
  8. Include use of rubrics or scoring tool by students and teachers
  9. Can be easily modified and implemented by a classroom teacher
