School Improvement in Maryland

The 5 MMSR Components in Action
Classroom Instruction

Teachers plan classroom instruction based on knowledge of child development, how children learn best, and an understanding of each child’s individual strengths, interests, and areas of concern. It is characterized by three elements:

. Reinforcing content knowledge by using early learning standards (i.e., "Readiness" Outcomes and Indicators and Maryland Content Standards)

. Developing instructional practices in the classroom which reflect the early childhood teacher standards of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS)

. Thinking systematically about teaching practice.
