Longer, Shorter, and the Same Length

Materials needed

Connecting or snap cubes, 10 per student (snapped together);

Recording Sheet 2 (http://mdk12.org/instruction/lessons/mathematics/gradek/resources/recording_sheet2.pdf).

Activities

Students work in pairs. Provide each pair of students with 10 snap cubes, snapped together. Students find objects in the classroom that are about the same length as the 10 snap cubes. Students record their findings by drawing the objects on Recording Sheet 1. As a follow-up, ask students to find objects that are shorter than, longer than, and the same length as a different number of snap cubes (Recording Sheet 2).
