Prerequisite Skills: The prerequisite skills describe what concepts a student needs to understand before working on this concept. |
Standard 1.0 Knowledge of Algebra, Patterns, and Functions |
Topic A. Patterns and Functions |
Indicator 1. Identify, describe, extend, and create numeric patterns |
|
Objective a. Represent and analyze numeric patterns using skip counting by multiples of 2 and 10 starting with any whole number, and using manipulatives and the 100 chart |
Prerequisite Skills |
|---|
Before students can be expected to count by 10s and 2s, they need to be proficient in counting by ones to 100. Providing many opportunities for students to count (e.g., concrete objects, daily calendar activities, and counting to the 100th Day of school) provides the experiences necessary for students to become comfortable with counting to 100. Also, ask students to orally count on from any given number (e.g., beginning with 24 and counting on). Finally, students need to be able to recognize and identify all numerals to 100 before using a 100 chart. |
