Indicator 1. Recognize and apply the properties/attributes of plane geometric figures

Objective a. Identify, name, and compare triangles, circles, squares, rectangles, and rhombi by their attributes

Prerequisite Skills

Prior to naming and comparing shapes by their attributes, children should:

  • have many opportunities to sort and re-sort geometric figures according to attributes, such as shape, color, and size;
  • recognize and describe basic plane geometric shapes; and
  • have multiple explorations with models of plane geometric shapes: circle, square, rectangle, triangle, and rhombus.
